Developed Idea
The idea I chose to develop is my ‘Highwayman’ idea. Taking in the feedback I received, I changed how my opening sequence appeared dramatically. I placed the focus on the bank robbery, and made sure the murders were creative and made more sense.
The scene opens with the two robbers in the bank, with the barrel of a double-barrelled shotgun pointed at the bank manager. The assailant shouts “open the safe,” to which the manager stammers and says that he doesn’t know how, but is obviously lying. The assailant hits the manager with the butt of the gun, hard, and his body falls to the floor. He then turns his gun to the female employee on the floor and cocks his gun, tells her to open up the safe, she complies and begins to unlock the safe. During this interaction, the second robber stands in the front of the bank (but still inside) and keeps watch, we hear sirens in the distance, but fade away soon. The robber looks through the big glass window, and notices something odd outside: a motorbike with its light on, but with no ridder. As he walks closer to the window to get a closer look, a small heavy object hits the window and sends sharp lighting-like cracks through the pane, but does not smash it. Out of irrational impulse, the robber runs outside to investigate, the camera then focuses now on the robber who is collecting money quickly out of the safe, obviously incredibly anxious because his partner has gone outside and left him on his own. Whilst we move closer to the robber by the safe, we hear two gunshots. The robber quickly gets up, zips up the bag and runs outside, he checks what’s left of his partner’s body and makes a run for the getaway car. The scene ends with a shot of the car driving quickly, but then a head suddenly appears in the back seat (the Highwayman has been hiding in the back of the getaway car and is about to brutally murder the second criminal). Blackout, and the title "The Highwayman" is shown in bold white, in the centre of the screen.
