Talk with Phil Tidy
TIDY TITLES from Phil Tidy on Vimeo.
Today we had a talk by former music producer, Phil Tidy. Above is a video detailing all of the artists Phil had worked as a producer for.
He gave us some interesting facts, along with some thought inspiring music videos. For example, some interesting facts are that:
Less than 10% of music videos are filmed by women
31% of all music is listened to online.
He presented to us his favourite music video, Intergalactic by the Beastie Boys, shown below.
He also mentioned how making music videos is a great way to start in the film industry. He gave us a list of feature film directors that started by making music videos:
He gave us an exmaple of one producer who gave a successful pitch for a brief by The Coronas. A treatment and budget was produced, and finally, a contract made, and below is the end product.
He also gave us some examples of strange videos he had produced. He was given the following quote, part of the brief: "I want the band to be photoshopped and mucked around with as much as possible." Below is the finished product:
He also did an unusual music video for the artist Jamiorquai. The treatment was JK wanting to be in a space buggy going around London in a space suit. Phil got him a space buggy built (right), which is still in his garage (cost $50,00 to built). Below is the finished product:
Another video he made, with conflicting stylistic elements was "So Many Times," by Gadjo, which was filmed over 2 days. In the video he acted as a producer, director, director of art, camera man and actor. Below is the video of it:
