Filming Roles
In lieu of our upcoming shoot date (November 23rd), we organised our filming roles for the day. We were told the roles that would need to be filled were: Director, Camera Person, Art Director and Floor manager. I didn't know these roles too well, so I did some research. I found out the following.
A director is a person who controls the making of a film and supervises the actors and technical crew
A Camera Person is the operator of a film or video camera. The person who essentially does the filming.
An Art Director is someone who is responsible for the visual style and images in magazines, newspapers, product packaging, and movie and television productions. They create the overall design and direct others who develop artwork or layouts.
A Floor manager is responsible for giving information from the director in the control room, to the crew on the studio floor, and then back to the director.
I will be the Director for element 2, Set 3.
Anastasia will be Camera person for element 2, set 3.
I will be the Camera person for element 1, Set 1 and 2
Dora will be the Director for element 1, Set 1 and 2
Anastasia will be Director for element 3, set 4 and 5
Dora will be Camera person for element 3, set 4 and 5.
Art direction will be a matrix role, of whoever is watching the set (camera person, director, floor manager) and can be taken by anyone, as we all planned the art direction together
Ya Fei will be Floor manager throughout the day.
Defining and allocating these roles are paramount, as they help divide the enormous effort of creating a music video. By setting these roles, social collaboration works at its precipice, ensuring we obtain the right shots and get a perfect representation of the star image, for our music campaign.
When I will be the cameraman for the first element (my thought child), I will be able to control the image on set to exactly how I imagined it 2 months ago. I will be in control of the framing of the shot, ensuring the rule of thirds is followed and the shot looks great and encapsulates the star image we are going for
When I will be the director of element 2, I will be in control of the mise-en-scene, namely the character positioning, facial expression, costume and makeup. I will be placing the dancers appropriately on our set, so the camera is filled appropriately with them, and the shots look great.
An example of the dancing I will be filming is below.
